Born in Bolzano (Italy), 1941. He graduated in Mathematics at the University of Rome. He is senior research scientist at CNR (National Research Council), currently at the ISTC (Institute of Cognitive Sciences and Technologies). He worked in the field of probabilistic reasoning and treatment of uncertainty, also dealing with application to medical expert systems. His main research interest is currently formal ontology. He is author of many scientific papers (published in international journals and conferences) on computer science and AI in medicine.
